Rights Respecting Schools Award      

Somerville Primary School is a 'Rights Respecting School'.  We promote the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in everything we do.  This award has helped us to acknowledge the good practice that encourages respect, fairness, dignity and equity.  It has also helped us to involve pupils in the running of the school.  All of our rights holders have a voice, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, disability, nationality, national origin, religion or belief.

 
Children’s rights are embedded in every part of school life here at Somerville.  You will find the articles are a part of every display in school, the school development plan, lessons, curriculum and subject reviews.

During this journey in becoming an Investors in Pupils school as well as rights respecting, our pupils have grown in confidence and developed their leadership skills.

Pupils have been learning about their role as global and local citizens.  We have made links with schools in Indonesia as well as local schools whilst learning about the global goals for sustainable development.

Class Charters

At the start of each academic year, pupils will design and help create a class charter. All pupils contribute and share the rights that they feel are most important to them. Therefore, all class charters are unique to the children in that class.
