Computing Curriculum Overview

At Somerville we aim to provide children with the skills and attributes to access and use information technology throughout their lives. The principles of E-Safety encompass all that we do and are an integral part of the Computing Curriculum, in which children are taught about the importance of E-Safety and the ramifications of their digital footprint.

At school we have invested in new equipment to allow children access to iPads, laptops and programmable devices as an integrated part of their lessons.

Our computing curriculum is both comprehensive and enjoyable. In line with the National Curriculum, we use the BGfL 365 scheme of work alongside the BGfL Launchpad tools to deliver our Computing curriculum. Educational software such as Purple Mash and J2E enables pupils to not only develop their computing skills but also extend their learning in different areas of the curriculum.

We also aim to promote being a good digital citizen and have developed a program of Key Stage 2 Digital Leaders who share responsibility for computing resources at Somerville and support pupils in developing their understanding of responsible internet use.
