Computing Curriculum Overview

We at Somerville aim to provide children with the skills and attributes to access and use information technology throughout their lives. The principles of E-Safety encompass all that we do and are an integral part of the Computing Curriculum, in which children are taught about the importance of E-safety and the ramifications of their digital footprint.

Our computing curriculum is both comprehensive and enjoyable. In line with the National curriculum, we have developed our own scheme of work which meets the unique needs of our pupils. At Somerville we use the scheme of work ‘Switched on Computing‘ alongside educational software such as Purple Mash and J2E. This enables pupils to not only develop their computing skills but also extend their learning in different areas of the curriculum.

As part of their computing curriculum children at Somerville also have access to a range of digital equipment including cameras, laptops, IPADs and programmable devices such as Beebots and Roamers.  Children enjoy computing sessions at Somerville in which they can become responsible, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
